Some Christmas Baking

Published in

Over the holidays my mom and I had some fun making cute desserts as gifts for some friends and family. I like to experiment, especially while in the States, as I had all the ingredients at my fingertips. Most specialty items are hard to come by in Belarus.

My mom also made her pound cake and spice nuts which she is reknowned for. She makes them every Christmas.

At our house when we want to be lazy (sort of) and are dying for pizza, we make it ourselves. Like tonight. I NEEDED pizza. I couldn't do the Turkey leftovers anymore, I just couldn't make myself.

Thanksgiving Meal

Hmmm, Thanksgiving. I love it, but this year will be much different than any of my other Thanksgivings.

This year the only family I will have with me is Ales. And this year I am also making all of the food myself. I have of course always helped my mom, but not so much that I know exactly what to do. So Thanksgiving will be trial and error. Probably mostly the latter.

Did I tell you I love pancakes?

I probably didn't yet, so now is always a good time to start. I LOVE, love, love, love, die falling in love with pancakes. Seriously. Well, I'm not being completely honest, we actually have a love/hate relationship ... I love them, but hate what they echhm* do to me.

Hmmhmm.... the scent of apples mixed with cinnamon, ginger, and orange is mingled through the house .... so wonderful!

The part that is NOT so wonderful the getting of such wonderful smells.... it's not that bad I guess, just very time consuming.

Sushi Night

We had some friends over last night, Alex and Olya, and our purpose was simple: eat sushi.

In addition to sushi I made egg drop soup and teryaki (my own version thereof) pork. I also made fortune cookies and Green tea and Chocolate Cake. It was way fun!

I am often asked what a "typical" Belorussian food is. So, I decided to give you a "typical" recipe for a "typical" food. (sorry I can get carried away with the quotation marks)
